omg, we have the kindest customers

omg, we have the kindest customers

It's just a fact. People who come here are the sweetest. No pun intended. I just feel so lucky. Like how is this my life. I feel like it's outta Gilmore Girls or some shit. insert wahhh emoji.

Today, something happened, and I just thought to myself, I better write this down. Then I realized, why not share it? I don't even know if anyone reads blog posts anymore. But what I do know is that I feel a lotta feelings (thanks hormones, for rockin' on as you do) and I gotta get em out!

Today, I was walking to the door to close it behind someone (we don't have an automatic door closer yet... which annoys our customers to no end I'm sure. Working on it!). As I did that, someone was riding by on their bike and asked if this was TMC. I said it is! Welcome in! And they locked up their bike and came in, sharing how they'd had a really bad day before this. I said something stupid about sweets hopefully making it better.

After ordering a hot pumpkin spice coffee and one of our banana bread chocolate chip cookies (drool emoji, iykyk), I realized it's our Cookie Painting Saturday. (Because it's Saturday. Every Saturday is Cookie Painting Saturday because of course it is!) So I offered them a complimentary cookie to paint, shape of their choice. I figured it may perk them up a bit! #artthings

They gracefully accepted, picked one of our vegan sugar cookies to paint to give to their sister who is allergic to eggs, and had at it.

This was nice. It was really nice just having them here. It's been a slow day (hello beautiful sunshine days; I forget that here in Maine as a shop owner, that means people go do fun outdoorsy things that rarely include hitting their favorite shops!), so it was lovely having someone in here.

Side bar: over the last year of having a retail shop, I've learned that even when I'm not engaging in conversation with guests, simply having them here doing their own thing is such a wonderful addition to the vibe.

Anyway, the customer asks for a sheet of paper and a pen. When they get up to leave, they say something to the effect of, "You've been so kind, I wanted to share a recipe from my native country. It's Dutch, I'm first generation." I just looked at them in awe. I had no idea what to say. If you know me, that's a hard thing to cause lol. I thanked them, told them how generous that was. Then they told me all about it! It's a cookie called a Peternoten. They're little cookies that used to be thrown at kids during Christmas parades, and they're made on December 5th.

Also, they note; their recipe has more milk to give them a softer bite!

This is just mind blowing. What a kind token of generosity!!! I just can't believe it. They were so kind to share that with us. And come December, I plan on trying it to add to our holiday limited time offerings!! We'll see!!

So, customer who didn't ask to be shared so I won't mention your name, if you ever read this, thank you. So much! You made my day. I hope your day got a bit better!!

XO,
Krystina

PS: Maybe I should share some stories of other customer kindness? Like the friend who just showed up one day with a cookie scented handsoap from her most recent stop to Bath and Body Works because it reminded her of us, or the couple who came in with an amazing locally sourced large crystal sanding sugar for our molasses cookies totally unprompted, or the kind woman who brought me a beautiful glass iced coffee dispenser after we chatted about how annoyingly expensive they can be, because she sees them at Goodwill all the time! Maybe that'll be for another post.
